Dear Eastern Branch member

The next Eastern Branch meeting will be held at Sywel Aerodrome. Set in the heart of Northamptonshire, Sywell boasts one of the best General Aviation Airfields in the United Kingdom. With superb airfield facilities and a wonderful Art Deco styled Hotel, it is easy to see why many pilots consider this one of the finest fly-in destinations. This is our Christmas event and always a popular one. We will have several interesting presentations with relevant topics of the day. A few more speakers will be added to the agenda. There is also a hotel on site if you need to stay overnight, quite athmospheric of the 40’s period.

We do hope that you will be able to join us on the day and support the Branch as well as harvesting a great deal of useful information from the presentations for yourself and your organisation. Please make every effort to come and support the branch and update yourself on what is new in the industry as well as updating yourself on the current state of relevant standards and local regulations. The APEA is about knowledge sharing and our event is here to provide you with data important for your job and a platform for discussion on issues of importance and relevance to our industry.

For your interest there is also a small museum opened in 2001 by the legendary aviator Alex Henshaw MBE. Alex flew from Sywell regularly during the Second World War, airtesting Vickers Wellingtons from the aerodrome. During the Second World War, activities at Sywell included repairs to 1,841 Wellington bombers and completion and flight testing of some 260 Lancaster Mk2 four-engined bombers. Approximately 2,500 wartime pilots were trained at Sywell. The aerodrome was also the centre for training ‘Free French’ pilots who had escaped from occupied France. After the war, basic and reserve RAF training continued, together with the overhaul of RAF Wellington, Mosquito, Dakota, Valetta and Varsity aircraft. The buildings themselves are artefacts having been used as bomb fuzing sheds at Bentwaters by the USAAF during WW2. The Museum was expanded by the addition of two new Nissen huts, formerly POW Camp Huts from Snape Farm, Derbyshire. The second hall includes an expanded USAAF Hall and a new POW/Luftwaffe exhibition.

Where else can you get this level of information and quality of speakers not to mention the knowledge you gain for the benefit of yourself and your business or organisation! The cost of attending is £35.00 whether for the whole or part of the day, this amount is subidised by branch capitation funds. Members from other branches are also most welcome. You may bring along a friend or colleagues. The amount goes towards meeting our costs for the event. For non- members a little more just £40.00 and includes the APEA Seminar coffee and sit-down Christmas lunch. You may pay by cash, cheque or bank transfer (see details below).

As demand for this event will be high confirm please confirm your attendance by return to reserve your seat now.
